If we aim for nothing in life, that’s exactly what we’ll get – nothing.
Goals are great because they help us feel fulfilled as people. We are at our happiest when we are working towards achieving a goal that we believe: a) will help us and b) we can accomplish.
Without goals we just drift along and become stressed and unhappy. We lose the will to do things and lose control of our lives.
If we don’t set our own goals others, or even worse, life will soon set them for us.
Most people do have goals but many don’t do anything about them because they don’t know where to start or what to do.
Here are a few tips to help you make your wishes come true.
1 Visualise The Goal
Know exactly what you want. If it’s a car, create an image in your mind of the make, model, colour, year, interior – everything. Utilise all your senses and make the image as real as possible.
2 Focus On The Benefits
Why do you want it? How good will you feel when you get it? Be very clear about the benefits to you of achieving your goal.
3 Have A Plan
What do you need to do to achieve your goal? Break it down into a series of steps.
4 Write It Down
This is about commitment. It’s when your goal stops being a dream and starts happening. Write it down in ink, in your own handwriting.
5 Set A Target Date
This should be challenging but achievable. Push yourself to make it happen.
6 Take The First Step
Go on – do it!
Finally, remember there is no failure, only the opportunity to learn. If you don’t achieve it this time, what lessons have you learnt for next time?
