Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Be Hypnotised?

Virtually anyone with a normal IQ can be hypnotised – if they want to be. However, you can’t force someone to be hypnotised against their will.

What’s Hypnosis like?

It’s very pleasant and relaxing, like having a nice daydream. Hypnosis is just a very focussed state of consciousness that we experience every day, for example when we’re so absorbed in a book or TV programme that we lose track of the world around us.

What's The Difference Between Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness (see above). Hypnotherapy uses proven therapeutic techniques during the state of hypnosis to help bring about change.

How Does Hypnotherapy Work?

It works by providing access to the subconscious part of our minds. This is important because, as a recent BBC Horizon programme showed, around 75% of what we do is subconscious, including unwanted/unhelpful habits, behaviours and limiting self-beliefs. Hypnotherapy applies proven, safe techniques during the state of hypnosis to achieve positive, beneficial change.

Is Hypnotherapy Safe?

It is completely safe. You will never do anything you don’t want to do, or which is against your best interest. You will always come out of hypnosis.

Will Hypnotherapy Work?

Yes, in most cases hypnotherapy works very effectively.

Hypnotherapy is often successful even where other more conventional treatments have failed. There have been numerous independent scientific studies carried out which demonstrate its efficacy.

How Many Hypnotherapy Sessions Will I Need?

This depends on the person and the nature of the problem. Issues can often be resolved in a single session, but sometimes several sessions are required.

How Long Does a Hypnotherapy Session Last?

Most sessions last around one hour. Some treatments, like smoking cessation last a bit longer.
